The Literacy Council's 6th Annual Author Reception & Auction raised over $15,000 to benefit the Council's programs.

The Literacy Council's 6th Annual Author Reception and Auction was held on October 21, 2000. Pulitzer Prize journalist David Maraniss, best-selling mystery thriller writer Jeffrey Deaver, and Peabody Award-winning Scott Simon entertained the audience by discussing their latest works.

Winners of the Council's Student Essay Contest also shared their stories. Kitana (Yung) Rackley read her amusing short story about her first impressions of the English language, and Sharon Stokes shared her moving poem entitled From the Heart. In addition, the Council proudly presented its most recent publication, Writing from the Heart: Essays by the Students of the Literacy Council of Northern Virginia.

The live and silent auctions featured a wide range of items to choose from. Services for the live auction were provided by David Quinn of the Auction House of Falls Church. The evening raised over $15,000 to support the work of the Literacy Council.
